Shedeur Sanders is set to start the preseason opener this Friday against the Carolina Panthers.
Sanders was drafted in the fifth round as the 144th overall pick. He has been competing in training camp behind Joe Flacco (resting), Kenny Pickett (out with a hamstring injury), and Dillion Gabriel (out with a hamstring injury),
Due to being behind Flacco, Pickett, and Gabriel on the depth chart, Sanders has not taken first-team reps with the team; instead, he has primarily worked with the fourth- team unit in the Browns’ offense.
During camp, Sanders completed 49 of 70 passes, achieving a 70% completion rate with 6 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. In comparison:
-Joe Flacco went 54 for 92, with a 58.7% completion rate, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.
-Kenny Pickett completed 23 of 34 passes, with a 67.6% completion rate, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
-Dillion Gabriel went 62 for 113, with a 54.9% completion rate, with 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
In this matchup, Sanders will face the Carolina Panthers’ first-team offense and defense. Which includes Bryce Young at quarterback.
The Browns and Panthers will compete against each other on Friday at Bank of America Stadium, starting at 7 p.m. ET.
