Biography

Shahid Evans is a proud native of Homewood, Illinois, where his journey as a student athlete in football and wrestling. Shahid ignited a passion for journalism at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. He Joined Viking Television and Vikings Radio, discovering the power of storytelling and the importance of giving athletes a platform.

 

 

Continuing his journey, Shahid attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Multimedia Production with a focus on Broadcast News. He became dedicated to highlighting overlooked athletes, solidifying his role as a trusted sports journalist.

Shahid served as the host of the sports segment "CrunchTime," where he analyzed sports such as football, track, and basketball. He also interviewed athletes, coaches, and mentors, including Steve Wyche and Kalan Hooks. In addition to hosting. Shahid took on multiple roles: he edited his own videos, wrote scripts, and handled the setup of cameras and lighting. He also did sports packages. Shahid wrote articles for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff's football and track teams and was also part of the film and camera crew for UAPB Athletics. He even announced players' names over the microphone during events.

His internship with the HBCU All Stars Basketball game allowed him to interview athletes and create graphics, including writing a preview story for the Women's HBCU All-Star Game. He also traveled to New Orleans to cover UAPB Offensive Line Man Chris Love at the HBCU Legacy Bowl where he shawdowed Steva Wyche and Mike Yam.

"It's not about being in front of a camera. All the work is done behind the scenes and what you do in and out of the studio," Shahid stated, explaining his passion for journalism.

 

Balancing his passion for journalism, he continued his football career as a wide receiver for the Golden Lions and proudly served as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; Inc., inspiring others along the way
